Born Franciscus Josephus Noethe to Anton (1833-1873) and Marianna Klosterman (1841-1908) Noethe. He was baptized in
St Boniface, Iowa. On the 1880 census he is listed as living with the Henry Halbur family and working as a servant.

In 1882 he married Maria Elizabeth Drees. They adopted a son, John Anthony (born July 6 1888 in New York-August 14, 1973 buried in Fort Snelling, Minneapolis, MN)and a daughter Maymie Gladys (born March 3 1888 in Iowa-October 25 1941 in Minneapolis, MN).

They lived in Iowa until around 1910 when they moved to Elkton, SD. The census lists them as owning a farm and Joseph working as a merchant. John is still living at home with his parents. They are listed as Catholics. By the 1930 census they have purchased a home in the town of Elkton. John is now the caretaker of a parochial school. John has left out on his own.

My thoughts are that Joseph died in the Pipestone, Minnesota hospital since he is buried in Elkton, SD. He is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery just east of town. If you are facing the large cross he is to the left in that section. The stone kind of looks like it was thrown down in the spot? Right next to another couple?
