He was born on January 3, 1905 on the family farm in Minnesota Township of Burke County, near Bowbells, a son of Frederick and Louise (Zielstorf) Aufforth. He attended rural schools in Minnesota Township and then continued to farm with his family. He was married to Marjorie at Bowbells on April 9, 1944, and they lived and farmed the family land near Bowbells. He entered the His North Central Good Samaritan Center in Mohall in March of 1988.
He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Kenmare.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Bowbells; sons, John D. "Jack" and his wife Gen, of Bowbells, and Allan and his wife Darlene of Bottineau; daughters, Montie Engeseth and her husband Carl of Arlington, WA, and Linda Enget and her husband Owen of Powers Lake; 12 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; four great-great- grandchildren; brothers, R. E. Aufforth of Bowbells, and Fred Aufforth of Santa Maria, CA; and a sister, Helene Redmer of Stanley.
