Olpe native Marcella E. Scheve-Kern, 86, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

The daughter of Barney John and Mary Margaret Dohm Scheve, she was born Jan. 8, 1918, in Maydale community near Olpe, where she received her early education.

She married Richard L. Kern on July 12, 1941, at Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka. He survives.

Mrs. Kern moved to Topeka in 1935 and worked at the Supply Depot during World War II. Mrs. Scheve-Kern was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, St. Matthew Altar Society, St. Martha Guild and Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle 503 in Topeka. She was a money counter for the church for 37 years.

She is also survived by a son, John E. Kern of Topeka; two sisters, Lucille Slattery of Mayetta and Marie Nagel of Atchison; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Three brothers, John Scheve, Pete Scheve and Fred Scheve, and a sister, Emma Senn, died earlier.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Matthew Catholic Church at Topeka. The Rev. Jerry Volz will conduct the service. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The Daughters of Isabella rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. and a parish rosary at 6:30 p.m., both today at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home in Topeka.
