YAKIMA - Frances Kiefel Ibach, 86, of Yakima was called from her earthly life to join the angels on December 4, 2006.

Frances was born on September 21, 1920 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to John and Christina (Bender) Kiefel. She was raised in Linton, North Dakota until her family moved to Yakima in 1937. She married Joseph J. Ibach on November 7, 1939 at St. Paul's Church. They had seven children who attended St. Paul's School.

Frances' first love was her family and she attended their needs as a homemaker. She was proud of her family, gracious and well loved by those who knew her. The children's school activities were important and she took an active part in their lives. Throughout her life she worked in several cannery operations and in local restaurants. Frances had a deep faith in God and instilled that faith in her family. She was an active member of St. Paul Cathedral Parish and in her later years, attended Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Selah. Frances was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Young Ladies Institute, Legion of Mary and Catholic War Veterans Women Auxiliary.

Frances enjoyed dancing with her husband, Joseph, playing cards, Bingo, word search games and socializing with family and friends. She was always ready to put food on the table for guests who came to visit. Many will miss her good cooking, especially her authentic German dishes. Frances enjoyed embroidery, crocheting and sewing and took delight in teaching her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, read to her children and encouraged reading throughout the family.

In her later years, Frances was thrilled to travel to the Marian Shrines of Europe with her daughter Shirley, granddaughter Connie, great granddaughter Rachel, her son Fr. Mike, and John and Anna Ibach. She also toured Vienna, Rome, Venice, Paris, and Lisbon. Frances was emotionally overwhelmed seeing Notre Dame Cathedral and by the sudden realization that she was able to travel to Europe.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly (Mike) Sheeley of Boise, Idaho; Joseph (Patricia) Ibach of Kirkland; Raymond (Kay) Ibach and Fr. Michael Ibach of Yakima, and Robert (Sue) Ibach of Bellingham. Survivors include four brothers, Wedlin, Joseph, Adam and Thomas Kiefel of Portland, Oregon; and three sisters, Agnes Chabot of Yuma, Arizona, Rose Thiel of Kennewick, Washington, and Delores Wolff of Portland, Oregon. Seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren survive her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, her parents, John and Christina Kiefel, two brothers, Lawrence and Pius Kiefel, two daughters, Jeanette Ibach and Shirley Randall, and a great granddaughter, Alexandria Ibach.

In lieu of flowers, the deceased specifically asked that funeral participants carry one flower stem to place on her casket at the time of burial. In lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made to St. Paul's Cathedral School Scholarship Fund.

Visitation will be offered on Wednesday, December 6, 2006, 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors. A Vigil Service will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM in the main church at St. Paul Cathedral. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2006, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Cathedral. Following the Mass, the family and friends will gather for a luncheon in the Fireside Room. At 2:00 PM the procession will depart from St. Paul Cathedral, and committal services will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

The family of Frances wishes to thank the staff of Riverview Manor for their care and attention to Frances and for making her stay there enjoyable. A special thank you goes to Adam and Peggy Wertz for transporting Frances to Church activities.
