Mary Justina Schilmoeller was the third child, and second daughter born to Bernhard "Ben" and Leona (nee Weithorn) Schilmoeller. She was born, and enjoyed her early childhood, in Covington, Kenton, Kentucky, where she had the companionship of paternal grandparents, aunts and uncles, and many cousins. She was lovingly named for Ben's sister Josephine, who after taking her solemn vows in the Benedictine tradition, was thereafter known as Sr. Mary Justina O.S.B. Ben and Leona moved their family to Indianapolis, Indiana sometime before 1935. After completing high school, Mary worked as a factory seamstress in Salt Creek, Ilinois.
In the early 1940's she married Heywood Bell and moved with him to Chicago, Illinois. They had three daughters, Mary Kathleen, Rita Lee, and Betty K, all born in Chicago. Mary Kathleen died in infancy. The couple was separated in 1950, and later divorced. She subsequently married James T Coleman in Cook Co, Ill. in July of 1951. She died in 1978 in Youngstown, Ohio.
