Elizabeth Mary Dillon, 84 died in Indianapolis on April 19, 2003. Elizabeth was the second child, and first daughter, born to Bernard Henry "Ben" Schilmoeller and Leona Wiethorn, and was named for her father's mother, Elizabeth Staverman. She was born, and spent much of her childhood, in Covington, Kentucky, where she enjoyed the company of her paternal grandparents, many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her parents moved their family to Marion County, Indiana, sometime before 1935.

She was a graduate of Greensburg High School, and worked as a domestic, keeping house and caring for the small children of Dr. and Mrs. Callaghan of Greensburg, Decatur, Indiana. She later attended, and graduated in 1945 from, the St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing.

On June 11, 1955, she married Thomas Finley Dillon of Indianapolis, the only son of Harold G. and Mary Egan Dillon. The couple had no children. Thomas owned and operated the National Sanitation Co. of Indianapolis during the first seven years of their marriage, and was thereafter retired. Thomas died in 1970. Elizabeth was an active member of St. Vincent Hospital Alumni Association, and the St. Monica Catholic Church. She remained active in her career and in 1983 retired from St. Vincent Hospital after 35 years of service.

In her final years Elizabeth was a resident of the Cambridge Health Care nursing home. Following her departure into eternal life, she was laid to rest at the Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana near Thomas and his family.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, her husband, Thomas, and all four of her siblings. She is survived by a niece, Rita Coleman, and a great-niece.

An unrelated party, who served as her power of attorney, arranged burial. Her grave stone was made in such a way as to lead to name confusion. Because her maiden name was entered on a second line, without the notation, "nee Schilmoeller", she has been erroneously recorded as Elizabeth Dillon Schilmoeller, instead of the correct, Elizabeth Schilmoeller Dillon. A spelling variation of 'Dillion' was also found.

Bio offered by Francine Schilmoeller Larsen.
