Named after his paternal grandfather, Johann Heinrich "John Henry" Schilmoeller, John H. Schilmoeller was the only surviving son of Bernard Henry "Ben" Schilmoeller and Leona Wiethorn.

He was born October 8, 1922, in Covington, Kentucky, then moved with his parents and two sisters to Indiana prior to 1935.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII from 20 Apr 1943 until 8 Dec 1945, when he was honorably discharged.

John remained a bachelor, living the quiet life he created on his own farm, until his death at age 61 years, 2 months, 8 days, on December 16, 1983.

The photograph above was taken of John in May of 1977, on the front porch of his farm in Greensburg, Indiana, by his cousin, H. J. "Joe" Schilmoeller, who was visiting from Alaska.
