Visitation will be Sunday, April 2, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 3, at the United Methodist Church in Beattie. Rev. Jose Eston Cruz will officiate.
Burial will be in the Beattie Union Cemetery.
Janet was born on September 8, 1941, to Paul and Olive (Locke) Roever. She graduated from Beattie High School in 1959 and moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, to work after graduation. On August 19, 1962, she was united in marriage to Alvin D. Smart, Jr. They had two daughters, Brenda and Sandra.
Janet worked for the Beattie Co-op and then Home City Grain as a bookkeeper. She was active in the United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School.
Janet enjoyed reading, embroidery and any activities her grandchildren participated in. She coached softball for several years.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Alvin; three brothers, Robert, Paul and Glen; two sisters, Mary and Betty.
Survivors include her daughters, Brenda (Brian) Taphorn, Kansas City, Missouri; Sandra (Tom) Wilson, Beattie; and grandchildren, T.J. (Paige) Wilson, Caleb (Kaylee) Wilson, Taylor (Isaac) Busch, Nicholas Taphorn, Jackson Taphorn; great grandchildren, Allarie, Kamrie, Rory and Landrie Wilson, Tinley Wilson and Brady Busch.
A memorial fund is established and will be designated later by the family. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
