Julia (Julie) Martin Emery passed away at home on March 25th, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. Her family misses her wit, smile and gentle soul.
Julie was born June 30, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the 3rd of 6 children born to Charles Cyril and Viola Irwin Martin. Julie grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School in 1943. After high school, Julie went to work for the Auerbach's Department Store in downtown Salt Lake. She met her husband Clarence (Clare) in 1945 and they were married on October 16, 1946. Julie and Clare, along with their growing family, lived in Idaho, Salt Lake and Maryland before settling down in Arlington, Virginia in 1959. Julie loved being a full-time homemaker and caring for her husband and children. Clare passed away suddenly in 1980. Julie moved back to Salt Lake City in 1981, to be near her extended family and to help care for her aging mother. She remained in Salt Lake City until her death.
As a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Julie enjoyed her many church callings, and especially enjoyed teaching young children in Primary and Sunday School.
She was an excellent seamstress, craftswomen, cook and baker. She was known among friends and family for her homemade potato rolls, and caramel candies at Christmas. Julie was an avid reader and enjoyed writing poetry and keeping yearly journals. She enjoyed a good game of Gin Rummy to the very end, and took great pleasure in beating her kids at it! Julie loved her grandchildren and spent countless hours with them as they grew up. They loved to have Grandma Julie read to them, and to eat her delicious pancakes, that she would make in the shapes of various animals.
Julie is survived by her brother, Darrell (Edith) Martin; 4 children, Robert (Heidi), Lawrence (Patty), Rebecca (Randy) and Karen (Tim); and 6 grandchildren, Ryan, Riley, Lauren, Audrey, Clare and Ross. She was preceded in death by her parents and 4 siblings, Irwin, Glenn, Zola and Marie.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 31, at the Grandview 3rd LDS Ward Chapel, 2930 South 2000 East, Salt Lake City (Millcreek), UT. Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 30 at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City, UT, and at the church on Friday morning from 9:30 am to 10:30 am prior to the service. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
