Sister Mary Jude Meyer, the last director of St Cloud Hospital nursing school, has died. She was 89. Meyer spent the last year and a half at St Scholastica Convent She died during the weekend of complications from influenza, said Nancy Kollmann, who is married to Meyers nephew. Meyer was director of the nursing school from 1967-1987. The school closed because three-year nursing schools were giving way to baccalaureate programs. CentraCare Clinic-River Campus now stands where Sister Mary Jude Meyer Directed school from X967 to 1987 the school used to be. . Meyer was born in Free-port, 28 miles northwest of St Cloud, Kollmann said. She attended St Cloud Hospital nursing school from 1935-38, Sister Paula Revier said. After graduation, she had various positions there before becoming director in 1967. "She could have gone to medical school without a doubt, but she was always a nurse through and through," said Revier, who graduated from nursing school in 1954. Barb Scheiber, a graduate of the nursing school, said Meyer "ran a tight ship." "There was no question when she would come into the classroom what kind of a graduate she wanted to produce," said Scheiber, who works at St Cloud Hospital. One of her nieces, Mary Sand, said she'll remember her aunt as someone who appreciated the simple things in life. Sand is a nurse at St Cloud Hospital. Meyer's funeral will be Thursday at the Gathering Place at St Benedict's Monastery in St Joseph.
