In 1909 the Shuberts immigrated to Canada, where they took up a homestead near Expanse, Saskatchewan. They returned to the United States in 1918, living on a tobacco farm near Acme, North Carolina for a year before settling in Franklin, Delaware County, New York.
Nellie worked briefly for General Electric in Schenectady before marrying Frank B. Allen in 1923. They later moved to Sidney, New York where Frank was a machinist for the Bendix Corporation. They had two sons, Paul and Theodore.
Nellie died 12 August 1992 in Unadilla, New York and is buried in the Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
