Hilda Herman

The funeral service for Hilda Herman, 91, former long-time Colfax nurse, was Wednesday morning, May 6, at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home in Spokane. She died last Thursday, April 30, 1998, at Good Samaritan Health and Rehabilitation Center in Spokane where she resided for the past three weeks following a stroke.

Born Jan 12, 1907, in Loveland, Colo, to George and Mary Phenning Kissler, immigrants from Russia, she moved with her family to South Dakota and later to the Yakima Valley where the family farm was established. She came to Colfax to train to be a nurse at St. Ignatius Hospital and graduated with the class of 1930. She worked at a variety of medical facilities in Colfax and Spokane before she retired after a 40-year career in nursing.

After retiring, she resided with a daughter, Sylvia, in Twin Falls, Idaho, before moving back to Spokane.

Surviving are four children, Louise Berroteran, Spokane; Greta Stueckle, Colfax; Willy Herman, Redmond; and Sylvia Jensen, Moscow; one sister, Rachel Whealen, Spokane; two brothers, Ben and Dan Kissler, Quincy; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials go to Home Health and Hospice of SE Washington in Colfax.
