SIDNEY — Betty J. (Barhorst) Grilliot, 85, formerly of Cardo Road, Fort Loramie, passed away of natural causes Thursday evening, Sept. 28, 2017 at Ohio Living Dorothy Love in Sidney. She was born Jan. 21, 1932 in Newport to the late Henry and Hilda (Middendorf) Barhorst. On Nov. 20, 1954, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Newport, Betty married Ernest J. Grilliot, who preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 2002.

Surviving are three children: Thomas and Ann Grilliot of Newport, Karen and William Bruggemann of Cincinnati, and Ronald and Lisa Grilliot of Sidney; seven grandchildren: Melissa Grilliot and Molly Harrod, Benjamin, Samuel and Jason Bruggemann, Chelsea (Travis) Greve and Jesse Grilliot; five step-grandchildren: Clint, Henry (Jodi), David (Julie) and Julie Reichert as well as Margie (Jake) Unrast; 16 great-grandchildren; four siblings: Janet and Bernard Koverman of Newport, Lester and Jeannie Barhorst of Newport, Mary Ann Davis of Sidney, Henry and Patricia Barhorst of Fort Loramie and sisters-in-law: Alice Barhorst of Dayton and Betty Grillot, of Sidney.

She was preceded in death by infant daughters, Rosemary and Charlene Grilliot; siblings: Thelma and Edward Luebke, James and Lucille Barhorst, Harry and Donald Barhorst, Eileen and Francis Shappie, Dennis and Barbara Barhorst, infant Lester Barhorst; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Remy Grillot, Verna and Virgil Gudorf, Allen and Dorothy and Norman Grillot.

Mrs. Grilliot was a 1950 graduate of Fort Loramie High School. She retired in 1997 from Copeland Corp. of Sidney and had previously been employed at the Decker Meat Packing Co. in Piqua. She was also an election poll worker for several years. Betty was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, St. Ann's Ladies Sodality, the Ft. Loramie Legion Auxiliary, Minster Eagles Auxiliary and the Piqua Leisure Club. She had also been a Newport Sportsmen Club Volunteer. Betty was dedicated to her family and especially enjoyed gardening. She had been active in several card clubs and still attended monthly luncheons with her grade school classmates.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 2, 2017 at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Newport with Rev. Steven Shoup presiding. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday 3 to 8 p.m. and Monday 9 to 10 a.m. at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Miami County or charity of choice. Private condolences may be expressed at www.gehretfuneralhome.com.
