Marie Alberts, 102, of McCook, died Tuesday, October 25, surrounded by friends and family at Country House Residence in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Marie Alberts was born August 31, 1915 at Culbertson, Nebraska to Conrad and Katherine (Preis) Herman. She graduated from Culbertson High school in 1933. On December 10, 1944 she married Albert H. Alberts at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Culbertson where she was also baptized and confirmed. They moved to McCook, Nebraska. They were married for fifty-seven years.
Marie was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for thirty years, sang in the choir, and led many Bible studies She was also active in the LWML, and the VFW Auxiliary. She and her husband worked with 4-H, Cub Scouts, and Little League baseball. She worked at McCook Public Library for thirty-seven years.
She enjoyed cultivating her vegetable and flower gardens and the results of her hard work. She was an exceptional seamstress, making coats, clothing and many quilts that are cherished by her family. Marie spent many hours in the kitchen cooking and baking. Her specialties included breads, runzas and sweet rolls. Family meant the world to Marie; she loved time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; five brothers, Henry, Conrad, Peter, Carl, and Philip; one sister, Louise; and two sons-in-law, Alan Donaldson and Lester Hein.
She is survived by her children, Joanne Hein of Melbourne, Florida, Kathy Donaldson of White Plains, Missouri, and Bill and Sallie Alberts of Grand Island, Nebraska; grandchildren, Brenda and Steve Harris, and Randy Hein of Lincoln, Pam Kontras of Melbourne, Florida, Andy and Annie Alberts of Tallmadge, Ohio, and Amy and Ron Grafelman of La Vista, Nebraska; eleven great-grandchildren and eight great-great- grandchildren, many relatives and friends.
Services will be at 10:30 Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm at Herrmann Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Culbertson cemetery.
