Darlene was born in Beaver Dam on April 15, 1939. She was the oldest of eleven children born to the late Georgianna and Robert Hampton. Darlene graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1957 and moved to Oshkosh shortly after, to work at North Central Airlines. Darlene met Robert L. Harmon, Jr. at the Oshkosh airport restaurant, and they married on September 7, 1963.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Robert; her children: Kelly (Jeremy) Steel of Stevensville, Maryland and Robin Harmon of Sun Prairie; her four grandchildren: Molly Helms, Erin Helms, Morgan Mueske, and Mandy Mueske. She is also survived by her siblings: Dean (Diane) Hampton, Dennis (Nancy) Hampton, Joyce Hahn, Connie (Gary) Davis, Anita (Rich) Connelly, Mark (Diane) Hampton, Kevin (Patty) Hampton, Janice (Mike) Helser, Keith Hampton, and Bobbi Hampton.
Darlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was fondly known as "GG" by her grandchildren and "Mama" by her husband. Her home was always a place that welcomed guests. She became an avid hunter in her married years and enjoyed spending time at their cottage in Nicolet National Forest. She felt her greatest accomplishment in life was raising two children. She was actually a mother to many. Darlene was kind-hearted, generous, and thoughtful to everyone who knew her. She taught us a lot about seeing the good in each day no matter what was going on.
Darlene enjoyed golfing, shopping, trips to Las Vegas, adventures with family and friends, and a cup of chai at Planet Perk. There will be a huge hole in people's lives that Darlene used to fill. Those who love and cherish her are better people for having known her.
Funeral services for Darlene were held Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street. A time for gathering and sharing memories followed the service.
A special thank you to the Mercy Oncology Center staff, the Mercy Medical Oncology unit at the hospital, Affinity Visiting Nurses Hospice, and all the friends and family that helped the family during this this difficult time.
