Darlene Turnbull, 73, of Vliets, Kan., passed away September 8, 2018, as a result of an auto accident.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, September 27 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Frankfort. The family will receive friends following the rosary in the Cigna Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, September 28 at Annunciation Catholic Church. Father Anthony Chendumalli and Father Jim Shaughnessy will officiate.
Darlene was born September 10, 1944 at Coal Creek, Kan., to Louis and Bernadine (Winkler) Stegeman. In 1962, she graduated Frankfort High School. During high school she worked at the Corner Café and Litel’s Drug Store in Frankfort. After graduation, she moved to Holton and worked at the Dress Factory until she married Max Turnbull, Jr., on June 29, 1963, at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Holton.
Darlene was a stay-at-home mom up until her children went to school. She worked part-time at the Frankfort Care Home, for four years, then went to work for Marshall County as the site manager at the Friendly Neighbors Nutrition Center for twenty-nine and a half years, retiring on her sixty-fifth birthday.
They lived in Vliets after their marriage and later moved to the farm. Darlene loved country and western music and spending time with her family, attending her granddaughters’ events and trying her luck at the casino.
She loved people and will be remembered for her caring ways for others.
Darlene was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church and the Harmony Guild Club in Vliets.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and infant son, Randy W. Turnbull.
Survivors include her husband, Max; and two children, Tami (Bruce) Akin, Topeka, and Kevin (Jody) Turnbull, Vliets; sisters, Bernita Lechner, Fairview, Deanna (Jim) Jueneman, Hanover, and twin sister, Arlene Biggs, Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Louis Stegeman, Oklahoma; and four granddaughters, Amanda (Josh) Folkerts, Chicago, Ill., Kelsey Akin, Chicago, Ill., Makayla Akin, Topeka, and Sarah Turnbull, Vliets.
A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel.
