Born in Rohleder (Raskaty), Russia to Nicholas Dreiling and Rosa Dack. Immigrated to the US on the SS Aller, arriving New York, NY on 14 June 1892.

The parents of Alexander's father, Nicholas, were Dionisius Dreiling (1828-) and Katharina or Margaret Glassman (1831-). Susanna Dreiling was an older sister of Nicholas. There are four Dionsius Dreilings buried in the US, all of whom can be traced back via Susanna or Nicholas to their Russian namesake.
