Michael Morris Kalley (likely Hungarian surname Kallai/Kallay) was born in Hungary circa. 1870-1876 and came to the U.S. circa. 1894-1900 (information varies on census documents, burial record, etc.). He married Mary Gyure from Vajan, Ung megye, Hungary (now Vojany, Slovakia) circa. 1901 in the New Jersey-New York area and together they raised three children: Nandor (aka Nathan, aka Norman, b. 1902), Helen (b. 1903), and Julia (aka Jewell, b. 1904). He worked as a photographer in the New Brunswick, New Jersey area before moving his family to Detroit in the 1910s, where he worked as a laborer, mechanic, and elevator operator. He was known primarily as Michal/Michael Kalley in his younger years on official records, e.g. census documents, where the surname is sometimes spelled as "Kelly", "Kally", or "Kallay". Apparently he was also known as Morris Kalley in his later years (as indicated on his burial record and the burial records of other close family members).
