Mary Gyure was born circa. 1878 (sources vary) in Vajan, Ung megye, Hungary (currently Vojany, Slovakia) to Jozsef Gyure and Zsuzsanna Popely [or Peter Gyure & Susan Papp, as indicated on her burial record]. She had at least one brother, Peter Gyure (1865-1934), who lived in Hollister, Ohio (near Glouster), from 1906-1920 and Whiting, Indiana (from 1920 until his death in 1934). She may have also had an older sister, Barbara (Gyure) Kovach (1863-1945), who lived in Hollister, Ohio, from ~1896 to 1945. Mary emigrated to the New York-New Jersey area circa. 1894-1900 (sources vary); she may have also lived briefly in Pennsylvania around that time. She married Michael Morris Kalley around 1901 and they raised three children together: Nandor (aka Nathan, aka Norman, b. 1902), Helen (b. 1903), and Julia (aka Jewell, b. 1904). The family moved from New Brunswick, New Jersey to Detroit, Michigan in the 1910s. Mary lost her oldest daughter, Helen, 17, in a tragic boating accident on the St. Clair River in August of 1920, and became a widow when husband Michael (aka Morris) died in June of 1935. She was a grandmother to Helene Joy (Kalley) Polak (1930-1990); and great-grandmother to Keith and Kenneth Polak (b.~1957) when she died in 1962 at age ~83.
