Jacob Maier and his wife Amalia Maier (her maiden name but no relation to Jacob except as his wife) were both born into a German/Lutheran settlement in Kratzke, Saratov Oblast, Russia, near the Volga River. They married in Kratzke in 1894 and then moved with their young family to the U.S. in 1904 and on to Winnipeg, Canada where they lived for many years. Jacob & Amalia immigrated into the United States in 1916. Jacob Maier died 3 years later. His wife remarried several times prior to her death in 1962.
