He was born in the German Volga District of Russia on March 25, 1880, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hergert, and was married in Russia on Dec. 27, 1901, to Katie Scheuerman, who preceded him in death in 1957.
Mr. Hergert had been employed by Paine Lumber Co. until retirement 20 years ago. He was a charter member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Surviving are four sons, Alex Jr., John, Melvin and Lawrence Hergert, Oshkosh; four daughers, Mrs. Herbert Otto, Mrs. Rudolph Penzenstadler, Mrs. Frank Sagmeister, Oshkosh, and Mrs. Norman Huber, Compton, Calif.; one brother, Henry Hergert, Oshkosh; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Gerald Nerenhausen officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at Konrad Funeral Home from Tuesday afternoon until 10 a.m. on Wednesday, and at the church on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the hour of services. A memorial has been established, to which friends may contribute.
