Sandy grew up in Marcus, Iowa, and spent the majority of her life in Omaha, Nebraska. Her short stature could be found behind a cash register or working on the floor at Goodrich Dairy, Nebraska Clothing, One Hour Martinizing, Hospe Music, Brandeis, Younkers, or Osco Drug. She enjoyed country music, dancing, and doll collecting. Sandy was also an enthusiastic volunteer for many years at Omaha's Summer Arts Festival and an avid political volunteer for both party lines.
