George Otto Messer, son of Otto Messer and Bernice Treharne Messer, was born February 11, 1926, in East Peoria, Illinois, and departed this life November 17, 2007, at his home in Lebanon.

On July 18, 1944, he was united in marriage with Ida M. Boyd and to this union was born three children, all surviving.

He served with the United States Navy, from May 10, 1944, receiving an honorable discharge February 17, 1946.

George was a race car enthusiast and was inducted into the Drivers Hall of Fame while living in East Peoria. He also enjoyed fishing, but his greatest joy was in being with his wife and family.

For many years he was employed as General Manager for Ford and Chrysler Automobile dealerships.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and attended the Bennett Spring Church of God, where he enjoyed the fellowship of the church family.

George is survived by his wife Ida, of the home, one daughter, Barbara Buescher and her husband Charles of Peoria, IL; two sons, George R. Messer and his wife Marsha of Springfield, Il., and Donald Lee Messer and his wife Alva of East Peoria, Il;, one brother, David Messer and his wife Peggy, and one sister, Barbara Duke all of East Peoria, Il, six grandchildren, Michelle Grace, Nichole Messer, Anne Marie Johnson, Eric Buescher, Jennifer Rudak and Dawn Shanine, five great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ralph and Richard Messer and a grandson, Chad Messer.

Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery.
