"Raymond E. Rodick, 82, of Leawood, KS, passed away October 22, 2004, at St. Joseph Health Center. Mr. Rodick was born April 27, 1922, in Barnes, KS, to Friedrich and Bertha Rodick. He was an Eagle Scout and a warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. As a young adult, he was active as a Scoutmaster.

Ray was a proud WWII veteran. He joined the Army in August of 1943, where he served as a first sergeant in the 70th infantry division. He was captured in the Battle of Northwind and was held as a prisoner of war in Germany. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged as a master sergeant in December of 1945. His memories of WWII continued with him his entire life.

He attended Kansas State University where he received a B.S. degree in Business. He worked in the family business, National Engineering Manufacturing, which eventually moved to Sedalia, MO. He met and married Betty Lou Clark in 1953, and served as a lay minister to three small churches. In 1965, he moved to Leawood, KS, and became a dispatcher for Niagara Therapy, which he and his wife ran until they retired in 1981. He was top distributor in the world for many years. Ray was an active member of the local POW organization and was Commander for two years. He was a member of Leawoodites ballroom dance club for 26 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection. He was an avid fisherman and gardener, and enjoyed traveling with his wife. He as a loving and caring family man and will be greatly missed by many.

Mr. Rodick was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Agnes Bass and Alice Wolffgang; his brothers, Henry, Carl and Vernon Rodick. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty, of 51 years; his sisters, Gladys Swenson, Betty Tate and Neilya Neighbors; his brothers, Bob, Dick and Fred Rodick; his daughters and sons-in-law, Jim and Cheri Kenney of Chicago, Rick and Marilynn Hemenway of Overland Park, Steve and Pam Hewitt of Leawood, Marty and Gloria Kniffen of Blue Springs; grandchildren, David and Eric Johnson, Luke, Mike , Andrew and Kyle Landau, Kevin and Lisa Hemenway and Brenda and Jeanette Kniffen.

Funeral services will be held at Mount Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Homes, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 27. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, at Mount Moriah. Burial in Mount Moriah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The United Methodist Church, of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe, Overland Park, KS, 66224, or the American ExPOW Organization, 1000 NE 83rd St., KCMO, 64118.
