Ernst Lehmann married Christine Hultsch on Jan. 6, 1878, in Newkirch, Saxony, Germany.
Ernst and Christine had a daughter, Pauline, and a son, Paul, born to them in the first years of their marriage.
In 1881, Ernst Lehmann left from the Port of Bremen, Germany, on the SS HERMANN, bound for the United States. The SS HERMANN docked at the Port of Baltimore, Maryland, on Sept. 21, 1881. While going through customs, Ernst Lehmann gave his full name, and the customs inspector said, "You look like an Ed to me," and so thereafter, Ernst Lehmann went by the name of Ed Lehmann. While going through customs, Ed Lehmann listed his occupation as a locksmith. Do not know if Ed Lehmann took a connecting ship from Baltimore to Galveston, Texas, or if he made his way to Texas overland. The plan was that Ed Lehmann would work and save money to bring his wife and two children to America. His wife, Christine, also held a job in Germany to save money for the voyage to America. After nine years, Ed and Christine Lehmann and their two children were reunited in Falls County, Texas, and shortly afterwards, Ed and Christine's third child, Walter, was born in Falls County.
In 1893, the Lehmann Family moved to the Gerald community, near Elm Mott, in McLennan County, Texas. Ed Lehmann purchased 60-acres from George Kramer on Dec. 28, 1893, for $840.00. The Lehmann Family settled here to make a living farming.
Ed Lehmann was a charter member of St. Paul's Evangelical & Reformed Church of Gerald, McLennan County, Texas, which was organized October 28, 1900.
On Oct. 5, 1912, Ed Lehmann was released from the vendor's lien by J. H. Schroeder, and Ed received a free and clear title to the 60-acres he had purchased in 1893. Ed Lehmann later sold this property and he and Christine moved from Gerald to the Ross Community near West, Texas.
Ed & Christine Lehmann purchased an 80-acre farm on Oct. 23, 1917, in the Ross Community in McLennan County from C. L. & Eula Coleman.
