OBITUARY FROM THE BANNER PRESS, DECEMBER 10, 1891

DEATH OF WM. BODE

It is with deep regret that the BANNER chronicles the death of Mr. Wm. Bode, which sad event occurred at his home six miles north of here at Zionsville Monday night at 11 o'clock, after an illness of two weeks duration, with abcesses of the liver.
The death of our esteemed friend awakens the mind to solemn dread, and while the philosophers tell us that it is as natural as to be born, who can imagine the groans and convulsions of bereaved relatives and weeping friends, and say that death is not a dreadful thing. Mr. Bode leaves many relatives and a host of warm friends that he has drawn to him by his genial whole-souled nature, who grieve that while he was yet far from the utmost limit of life's allotted span--three score and ten--death should swoop down and bear him from among us. But let us hope that death to him was a port where refuge was found, and an end of labor, for he was hardworking, and an entry into rest.
His funeral took place from the family residence in Zionsville at 3 o'clock Tuesday evening and his remains were interred at Zionsville cemetery, to which place they were followed by a large concourse of grief stricken friends and relatives who turned out to pay this last sad tribute of respect to his memory.
Quite a number of Schiller Lodge of A. O. U. W., of which Mr. Bode was a member in good standing, went out from here to attend the funeral.
