LUEKE - Walter Lueke, 2208 20th St., Columbus, died Monday at his home. He was 83 and had been in ill health for the past 13 years.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church at Shell Creek. A family prayer service will be held at 1:45 preceding the church service. Rev. L.E. Mortensen will officiate with burial in the Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home and at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Born Nov. 15, 1896, at Rogers, Neb., he was the son of William and Emma (Grotelueschen) Lueke. He attended rural school and on March 10, 1920, he married Lillie B. Held at St. John's Church at Shell Creek.
A farmer and trucker, he lived most of his life in the Columbus area and was a member of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, Hartman Post 84, a six-year council member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie of Columbus; a son, Milton Lueke of Columbus; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Minnie Loseke, Columbus, and Louise Howe of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Vernetta Hellbusch; a sister, _aura Shindler; four brothers, __bert, Emil, Bill and __rhart.
