Funeral services were held at the St Paul's Lutheran Church in State Center, Thursday afternoon, June 19 for Mrs W A Smith, former local resident who passed away Sunday at the Brown Hotel in Des Moines following a four month's illness. Interment was in St John's Cemetery, north of State Center.

Mrs Smith was born at Dillon, Iowa, February 1, 1878, the daughter of Rolfe and Hannah Wolken. She was united in marriage to William A Smith of State Center on January 6, 1901 and they farmed northeast of State Center for many years. Mr Smith passed way in 1925. She remained a resident of this community until 1933.

Mrs Smith was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Moines, at the time of her death but was confirmed at Dillon and when residing here was a member of St John's Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid Society.

She is survived by two sons, Arthur of Melbourne and Henry of Letcher, S.D., and four daughters, Mrs Elberta Beuishek of South Dakota and May, Irene and Avonelle of Des Moines with whom she made her home. Also surviving are two grandchildren, five brothers and five sisters.
