Mrs. Mary Lucas Dead
Mrs. Mary Hannah Lucas, 76, died at the Fort Scott hospital at 3:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon after an illness of several months. She had been at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Homer Logan in Fort Scott for the past six weeks, and was taken to the hospital Sunday.
Mrs. Lucas had been a resident of the Cherokee and Crawford County area all her life. She was born in Monmouth, June 27, 1871. She moved to Cherokee in 1914. She was the widow of the late J.E. Lucas, former Cherokee marshal. She was a member of the Methodist church, and one of the finest women we have ever known.
Survivors in addition to Mrs. Logan include three daughters, Mrs. Jessie Zimmerman of Columbus, Mrs. Muriel Tharp of Arlington, Va., and Mrs. Leone Rodden of Longson, Kas.; two sons, Perry Lucas of this city and Graden Lucas of Kansas City; fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
But a couple of weeks ago she was telling her son Perry to be in Fort Scott in time to bring her to Cherokee for the Homecoming.
The body was taken from the Brenner Mortuary in Pittsburg to the home on Wednesday evening. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with the new pastor, Rev. G.M. Pearse in charge. Interment was in the Cherokee cemetery.
