† Andreas Schatte † Obituary from St. Paul Lutheran Church, Serbin, Texas
"On last Saturday morning, between 9 and 10 am, Andrew Schatte died after a short illness, believing in his Savior. The same was born on June 19, 1857 in his home close to Serbin and was baptized by the now departed Pastor John Kilian. His parents were Christopher Schatte and Rosina née Domaschk. In 1868 he was confirmed by Pastor John Pallmer. In 1877 he entered into holy matrimony with Maria Magdalena Zimmerman, with whom he has lived over 51 years in a happy marriage. This marriage produced 12 children, six sons and six daughters. Of these, six have gone into eternity before the father. A son, 31 years old, burned. A daughter, 25 years old, was inexplicably shot in Houston. For 56 years, Mr. Schatte had his residence on Rabbs Creek, where he departed this life and entered into the heavenly home. The length of his earthly life was 75 years, 7 months and 17 days. The mourners are his widow, Marie Magdalena, six children, Otilie, Christof, Adolf, Hulda, Alwin and Erich; 32 grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren, a brother-in-law Matthes Kasper and a cousin, Mrs. Gottlieb Zoch, and other near and distant relatives. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon. At 2:00, a short funeral service was held in the house of the deceased. A long funeral procession moved to the St Paul's church at Serbin. A German and an English funeral service was held by his pastor, Rev. Hermann Schmidt in front of a many mourners where they and the bereaved received heavenly solace. The burial took place in the Serbin cemetery, where he will stand at the last day and go forth incorruptible. ---- If I, in my grave have now rested, So I will rise again; As Christ from the bands Of death is risen, So I should also freely rise.
