Kirk Michael Springer, 20, victim of a mine cave-in near Tincup Monday was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Springer, 1725 Orchard.
He had been employed at the open pit Star Mine for about three months.
Born here October 6, 1951, the young man attended Grand Junction High School and Mesa College. He was interested in arts, drama and ecology. He was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and the Thespians.
Additional survivors are two brothers, William Springer in the Army in Monterrey, Calif., and John at home.
