Funeral: Dryer Funeral Home, Holly, with Pastor Ed Pedley officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, Holly with full military honors.
Bernard Kienzle, known as Gene Kienzle, was born in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 2, 1922 the son of Frank X. and Mary (Stingle) Kienzle.
Gene married Elsie Merrill Kienzle on Oct. 5, 1986.
Gene was a Staff Sergeant with the US Army in WWII, CO L 394th Inf, 99th Inf Divisions and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. While in Germany he was captured and was a prisoner of war for 5 months. Gene was a life member of the Davison VFW.
Gene and wife Elsie spent their winters in Nalcrest, FL (near Lake Wales).
Surviving were his wife Elsie Kienzle; son David Kienzle of Flint; daughter Pamela Knapp of Fenton; brother Harry of Pennsylvania; 3 grandchildren, Ann (John) Kotalik of Holly, Alan (Amy) Knapp of Davisburg, and Andrew (Dana) Knapp of Holly; 6 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Heather, and Katelynn Kotalik, Haley and Abigail Knapp, and Zachary Knapp; and 1 great-great-grandchild due in November.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 8 brothers and 4 sisters.
