He was born March 16, 1913, on a farm near Kelly, the son of Edward A. and Thresia Sextro Brucken. The family later moved to a farm north of St. Benedict, where he attended B elvue School near St. Benedict. He started driving a truck for his dad when he was 15 years old.
On January 16, 1941, he married Alvina Wessel at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville, KS. She survives at the home. They celebrated their golden wedding anninversary in 1991.
He was a trucker for truck lines in Baileyville, Holton and Horton. In 1964, he moved to Beattie, where he drove for Studer Truck Lines until his retirement in 1978. After his retirement from trucking, he continued to do mechanic work for several truck lines in the area.
He was a member of St. Malachy Church at Beattie. Ed was a hardworking man who enjoyed his family.
Survivors besides his wife, Alvina, are son, William J. Brucken, Beattie; daughter, Judy Huninghake, Salina, KS; brothers, Albert Brucken, Raytown, MO; Lawrence Brucken, Soldier, KS; Leo Brucken, Havensville, KS; sisters, Mary Wessel, Topeka, KS; Dorothy Benoit, Hoyt, KS; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, John Brucken on October 14, 1942; Lawrence Brucken on February 18, 1973; and brother, Henry Brucken on February 3, 1995.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on September 29, 1998, at St. Malachy Church, Beattie, KS. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Baileyville, KS.
