Clarence Kainz

Clarence Kainz, age 84, a resident of the Harding, MN, area, died March 26, 1998, at St. Mary's Villa in Pierz, MN.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held March 30, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding, with Father Roger Thoennes and Father Bernard Kahlhamer concelebrating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Clarence was born May 27, 1913, in Buh Township near Pierz, to Andrew and Bertha (Reese) Kainz. He lived in Vauter, near Genola, MN. From there he moved to Platte Township where he grew up. He was a part of the CCC program in northern MN in 1933 and 1934, building bridges, fire towers, and planting trees. Clarence married Josephine Zak on September 18, 1935. They farmed north of Harding for many years. Clarence worked on power lines and did carpentry work until he went to work for Consolidated Telephone Company in the early '50s.

Survivors include his wife Josephine Kainz of Harding; two sons, Don and wife Rita of Rice, MN; Clarence "Buz" and wife Susan Kainz of Cottage Grove, MN; one daughter, JoAnne and husband Leonard Carlson of Chisholm, MN; four brothers, Raymond Kainz of Ely, MN, John Kainz of Sacramento, CA, Norman Kainz of Ely, Michael Kainz of Kissimmee, FL; two sisters, Delores Lutz of Ft. Myers, FL, and Doreen Bistis of Port Isabel, TX; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, William, Vernon, Ervin, Leo Kainz; and three sisters, Bertha Litke, Hildegard Jackson, Annie Nelson; one infant brother, Harvey and one sister Emma who died in infancy.

Casketbearers were grandchildren, Thomas, Timothy, and Jeffry Carlson, Joseph, Jon, James, Beth, Charles, Daniel, Christine, Amy and Andrew Kainz.
