Shirley J. Mees, 74, of Marshall died on Saturday, August 1, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born April 5, 1935 in Ecorse to Claude R. and Sophie (Kovacs) Craven. She graduated from Homer High School in 1953. She married Gerald W. Mees at the Homer United Methodist Church on September 27, 1953. They have 5 children, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Shirley worked for Schuler's Restaurant as a waitress and later because an administrative assistant for over 30 years. After her retirement she worked for Tidd-williams Funeral Home in Homer for 15 years. She was a member of the Marshall Women of the Moose # 202, and the Homer VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband Gerald of Marshall; daughters Joanne M.
Allen of Marshall, Cheryl (Mark) VanBeck of Portage; three sons Larry
(Delaina) Mees of Clayton, Garry (Chris) Mees of Battle Creek, Robert
(Michelle) Mees of Marshall; eight grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by brothers Robert Craven and Charlie Craven
both of Homer, and a sister Joyce Cooper of Linn Creek, Missouri. She
was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services celebrating her life took place on Tuesday, August
11, 2009, at Kempf Funeral Home with Chaplain Robert Levy officiating.
Interment followed at Fisher Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be
made to the Oaklawn Hospice or to the charity of one's choice.
