Joyce Marie Cooper
Joyce Marie (Craven) Cooper, age 67, of Linn Creek, Missouri, and formerly of Homer, died Monday, January 20, 2014.
Mrs. Cooper was born August 21, 1946, in Detroit to Claude R. and Sophie (Kovacs) Craven. Joyce grew up in the Homer area, attending Homer Community Schools, and was a graduate of Homer High School, class of 1964.
In 1966, she married Darrel Cooper at the Homer United Methodist Church. The couple relocated to Chicago in 1972, where she went to work for the Crawford Department Store. During her employment there, she continued to advance her position in the company, reaching the positions of supervisor and then as corporate buyer for all Crawford stores. Her position took her to New York several times a year to meet with clothing wholesalers.
Joyce left the employment of Crawford in 1986. She soon opened her own business, Advertising Impression. Her company sold marketing and advertising materials and services to many Chicago companies. In 1999, she moved her business to the Lake of the Ozarks area in Missouri. Her company continued to grow, servicing her customers in the Chicago area as well as many new clients in Missouri. Over the last several years, Joyce slowed down her business operations.
While living in Camdenton, Missouri, she was as active member of the Chamber of Commerce, as well as other civic organizations. Joyce was an avid reader, and she loved bird watching. She had numerous bird feeders all around her home. She was well educated as to the many species of birds and enjoyed identifying the many different birds that visited her feeders.
She is survived by her two sons, Dennis (Dawn) Cooper of Crystal Lake, Florida, and David (Amy) Cooper of Nashville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Lawrence, Rebecca, Kathleen and Jacob; brothers, Robert Craven of Homer and Charles Craven of Homer; numerous nieces and nephews; a very dear friend, Shirley Childers of the Lake of Ozarks area; and a special caregiver, Lora Morrow. Her parents; a grandson, Steven Cooper; and her sister, Shirley J. (Craven) Mees, preceded her in death.
The family received friends at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home January 31 from 4-8 p.m. A funeral service was held to celebrate the gift of her life the morning of Saturday, February 1, at the funeral home. Interment followed at the Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens in Battle Creek.
Friends who wish to make memorial contributions may do so to the American Lung Association. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home. Homer Index, February 5, 2014
