Otto Carl LANGE ("Otto C. LANGE") was born in Exin, Kreis Schubin, Province of Posen, Germany [today: Kcynia, Poland] on April 25, 1882.

Together with his parents, his older brother Theodor F. and his younger brother Paul, he had emigrated to the USA in 1887 on board the NDL ("Norddeutsche Lloyd") steamship "Ems". After finishing high school in Springfield, MA, he joined his father's restaurant and hotel business. Together with his father, they become the proprietors of "Park Square Hotel" in nearby Westfield, MA after the turn of the century.

During the First World War, Otto LANGE is a steward at "Westfield Club" in Westfield, MA.

After the war he becomes a chauffeur for a private family in Springfield, MA. Later on he has his own real estate business.

Otto LANGE never married and died in Springfield on May 22, 1955.

Otto C. Lange

Otto C. Lange of 62 Massachusetts Ave. died Monday morning [May 23, 1955] in Springfield Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Exin, East Prussia [sic], in the province of Posen, Germany April 25, 1882, and came to this country in 1887. He was a former partner in the management of the Park Square Hotel, Westfield. He served as the assistant steward of the Springfield Elks Home until 1949. He was a member of the Holyoke Lodge of Elks and the Springfield Turnverein. He leaves three cousins, Mrs. Emil Frey of DeBary, Fla., Mrs. John Gorth of New York City and Miss Hertha D. Lange of this city. The funeral will be held at the Byron funeral home Wednesday [May 25, 1955] at 1.30. Rev. Leslie H. Johnson of the Wesley Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. At 7.30 tonight [May 24, 1955], the Springfield Lodge of Elks will conduct a ritual service.

The funeral of Otto C. Lange, formerly assistant steward at the Springfield Lodge of Elks, was held at the Byron funeral home Wednesday [May 25, 1955] with Rev. Leslie H. Johnson of Wesley Methodist Church officiating. A delegation from Holyoke Lodge 902, BPOE was represented by Joseph F. Leary, William Lamay, Robert Munn, Frank Snyder, Martin Leary, and Joseph Bouton. The active bearers were members of the Springfield Lodge of Elks. They were Theodor R. Geisel, Donald C. Metzger, Ralph L. Atkins, Howard S. Neff, William C. Hartmann and William J. Bracken. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

The estate of the late Otto C. Lange of 62 Massachusetts Ave. is estimated at $250,000, it was indicated in his will, allowed yesterday [Aug. 16, 1955] by Judge Thomas H. Stapleton in Probate Court.

Beneficiaries are Mrs. Clara Frey of DeBary, Fla., a cousin, Hertha D. Lange of 35 Washington Rd., this city, and Frank T. Lange of 55 West Mountain Rd., North Wilbraham, another cousin [sic] and executor.

Owned Hotel
Mr. Lange was the son of the former proprietor of Park Square Hotel in Westfield and later operated a hotel and cafe at Main and Pynchon Sts. He also was active in Springfield Lodge of Elks, to which he left $10,000 in a trust fund. Allen, Yerrall, Appleton and Thompson represent the executor.

The temporary conservator of the property of said OTTO C. LANGE has presented to said Court his first and final account for allowance.

If you desire to object thereto you or your attorney should file a written appearance in said Court at Springfield before ten o'clock in the forenoon on the thirtieth day of September 1955, the return day of this citation.
