Madison - Vera (Uphoff) Jones, age 89, of Madison, died on Friday, May 26, 2000 at her home. She was born on October 15, 1910 in Cottage Grove to Warren and Florence (Maiden) Uphoff. She graduated from Madison East High School in 1927. She attended Madison Business College and then worked for the Wisconsin State Board of Health. She married Earl Brandt on March 19, 1932. They were divorced in 1944. Vera served with the WACS in England during WWII achieving the rank of S/Sgt. She married Osborne Jones in June of 1955. They were divorced in September of 1978. Vera worked for the State of Wisconsin until her retirement. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Ramona (Harland) Hesselberg, Roberta Edgington, Sally (Dennis) Radecke, Louise Jencen, Warren (Evelyn) Uphoff, Sydner Uphoff, Carl Uphoff, David (Laura) Uphoff and Donald Uphoff. She was preceded in death by her father, Warren Uphoff; her mother, Florence Sandsmark; her stepfather, Sam Sandsmark; her brothers, Sydner and Carl Uphoff; and a half-brother, Richard Sandsmark. Vera requested that her remains be cremated and interred privately at Roselawn Memorial Park cemetery.
