Jacob Wacker Sr. was born on March 22, 1871 in Frank, Saratov, Volga Russia. He was the son of Heinrich Wacker and Maria Barbara Hardung. Jacob, along with his younger sister, Maria Barbara, immigrated to America with other family members on the steamship SS Scandia, which left Hamburg on March 22, 1892 on Jacob's 21st birthday. The Scandia arrived in New York Harbor on April 1. The passengers disembarked the next day and were transferred to Ellis Island on April 2. Jacob and his sister traveled west to Nebraska and it was in Hastings, Nebraska, that Jacob found work with the railroad. It was also here that he met his future wife, Anna Marie Schafer. On February 11, 1893, Jacob and Anna Marie were married in Hastings, Nebraska, and settled there for about ten years. In 1904 along with their young family they traveled west and settled on a dry land wheat farm located about 14 miles southwest of Odessa, Washington. Six known children were born to this marriage: Jacob Jr., Henry J., Lydia, Hannah, William A., and Reinhold Wacker.
