Mrs. Elizabeth Vaske passed away at her home west of New Vienna on Wednesday evening July 3, 1913 at six o'clock, after a lingering illness at the age of seventy years. Deceased had been in poor health for years but was not confined to her bed until about three months ago, since which time she gradually became weaker, until death relieved her of her suffering.Deceased's maiden name was Maria Elizabeth Boeckenstedt and she was born at Steinfeit, Oldenburg, Germany, On March 27, 1843. At the age of three years she came to America with her parents and came directly to New Vienna, where she has continuously resided.On May 4, 1858, she was united in marriage to Mr. Bernard Vaske, in St. Boniface church, New Vienna, soon after which she and her husband took up their residence on their farm west of that town, where she since made her home. Her husband died three years ago. She is survived by the following children; Clemens and Joseph of New Vienna; Frank of Luxemburg; Mrs. B. Menke, Dyersville; Mrs. John Henekes, Adrian, Minnesota; Mrs. John Loecke, New Vienna, Mrs. B. Nurre, Petersburg; Mrs. Frank Noethe, Arcadia. Two daughters, Mrs. Henry Funke of New Vienna and Mrs. Joseph Menke of Luxemburg preceded their mother in death.She is also survived by four brothers, Arnold, Clem and Anton Boeckenstedt.In the death of Mrs. Vaske, the community loses another of the few remaining pioneers, whose labors and encouragement did much toward the development of this country from its primitive state to the advanced stage of culture and civilization it now enjoys. A kind and considerate friend and neighbor, helpful toward all, her influence in the community was felt and will remain a fitting tribute to her memory in the hearts of many friends. She was a devout member of the Catholic church and strictly adhered to its teachings.The funeral took place Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock at St. Boniface church at New Vienna.
