Maria was born in Petrach House,12 Grabce, Gorje, Slovenia to Martin and Barbara (Kozel) Legatt. Godparents were Nicolaus Kozel and Maria Urebec. She immigrated with her parents to St. Stephen, MN in 1874. She married Jan 10,1888 to Joseph Slivnik in St. Stephen. Another birth record gives her birthdate as Dec. 4, l874. Mary was a midwife. Death record states that she died of myocardial insufficiency, arterioschlerosis. Funeral by Ross of Sauk Rapids.

MRS. MARY SLIVINIK (SLIVNIK)

Mrs. Mary Slivinik, 76, died December 18 at the home of her son, Herman, in St. Stephen. She had been ill for some time. Mrs. Slivinik was a life-long resident of St. Stephen.

Seven children survive--John, Joseph, Mrs. James (Gertrude) Zima, St. Stephen; Sister Methodia, Cottonwood, Idaho; Mrs. Peter (Johanna) Kozel and Mrs. Frank (Agnes) Kosel, St. Cloud. Another daughter (Mary) died two years ago. (Also a son, Mike, died in infancy.)There are 38 grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Catholic church at St. Stephen with burial in the family lot in the parish cemetery. The body is at the Herman Slivinik home.

Mrs. Slivinik was a charter member of the Holy Rosary society and the Third Order of St. Francis.
