HENRY MICHAEL FOXHOVEN
John Foxhoven was born in Rhineland, Germany in 1836. He came to the United States with his parents at age 13 and settled near Johnsburg, Wisconsin. His wife, Mary Katherine Karl was born in 1841 in Germany. The Karl family also settled near Johnsburg in 1851. After their marriage in 1860, John worked in the pineries of Wisconsin. in 1874 the John Foxhoven family moved from near Fond du Lac, Wis. to Shelby County, Iowa near Westphalia. Upon retirement in 1902, they moved to Earling. William Foxhoven, son of John and Mary Katherine, was born near Fond du Lac, Wis. in 1869. In 1896, he married Anna Engel, daughter of John and Kunigunda (Deusell) Engel. Anna was born near Red Oak, Iowa in 1877. The Engel family moved to Shelby County, Iowa in 1881. William and Anna were farmers in the Earling area and were the parents of the following children: William, Katie (Mrs. Mike Sandbothe), twins Peter and Paul, Kunigunda (Mrs. John Fuhs), Theodore, Henry, Isabelle (Mrs. Mike Stein), Ralph, Albert, Alfred, Cecelia (Mrs. Tony Grund), Mathilda (Mrs. John Healey), Rose and Bernard. Henry Foxhoven, son of William and Anna, was born in 1904. In 1929, he married Frances Marie Kaufman, the daughter of August and Mary Schneider Kaufman. Frances was born in 1904, near Westphalia. Henry and Frances also chose farming as their occupation, living near Earling. They were the parents of eight children: Betty (Mrs. William Noonan), Bernice (Sister Charlita O.S.F), Celestine, Mrs. Arlene (Mrs. William Rolf), Richard (deceased), Janet Fielder, Shirley (Mrs. Don Herbst), and Carol Foxhoven. After the death of Frances in 1960, Henry continued farming until 1971. He still lives in his farm home.
