==========
CHARLES HENRY BOMBERGER
"Charley, as he was called, was born in a dugout or cave home in Johnson County, Nebraska, near the town of Cook. He was the only child in his family who kept the old spelling of of the name Bomberger. He spelled it Bombarger.

Charley farmed in Nebraska, cut railroad ties in Colorado, and worked as a blacksmith in Kansas. He moved to Custer County, Nebraska, about 1910, and worked as a farmer and was the separator man on threshing rigs.

He had a keen wit and never came to your house without him giving you something. Maybe something from the garden, but always something."

==========
I remember Grandpa Charley telling me about his days of cutting railroad ties in Colorado—he received .01 cent per tie and for his first days work, only one tie met the railroads specs so 1 cent was his days pay. He and another man walked off the job after lunch one noon after burying their axes and saws under a tree. Part of me thought it would be neat to try finding that tree and maybe the saw and ax—just a dream on my part though.
