Obituary, prob Tecumseh Chieftain newspaper:
B.G. Bomberger, one of Cook's best loved citizens and a pioneer of Johnson County, passed to his reward at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, 21 May 1941, after a long illness. His health had not been good for four years, but it was during the winter months that he began to fail more rapidly and for the last three months he had been bedfast. Cancer was the cause of his death. Throughout his illness he was given every care by his physician and members of the family, and he was grateful for every kindness shown by them, and by his neighbours and many friends. His wonderful disposition never failed him, and those who visited him were always impressed by his cheerfulness and the unfailing sense of humour with which he was so richly endowed. The passing of this kindly man will be keenly felt by everyone who knew him. His age was seventynine years, eight months, and sixteen days.

Benson G. Bomberger, son of Peter and Minerva Bomberger, was born 5 Sep 1861 at Maquon, Illinois. Seven years later the family came to Nebraska and located in Johnson County and it was in this section that the remainder of his life was spent. On 14 Nov 1880 he was married to Miss Frances Isabelle Jones, the ceremony being performed in the Helena parsonage, and to them were born twelve children; eight of whom survive their father. Mr. Bomberger engaged in farming, and he well knew the trying time of pioneer days in Johnson County. About 1916 Mr and Mrs. Bomberger left the farm and retired to Sterling, but four years ago they moved to Cook to make their home.

One of the happiest days in the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Bomberger, was the celebration of their sixtieth wedding anniversary last November when they held open house and scores of friends and relatives spent the day with them.

Mr. Bomberger found much pleasure in his membership with Mt Herman Lodge No. 231 A.F. & A.M. of Cook, and as he was the oldest member he had been honored with the Jordan medal and also the fifty year medal.

Deceased was a gentlemen whose first thought and consideration was always for his family and friends. He lived a splendid Christian life, and his circle of friends included all his acquaintances.

Surviving are his widow; three sons and five daughters: Mrs. Alfred [Florence] Riensche, Cook; Mrs. Merle [Mabel] Wright, Mission, Texas; Mrs. Dick [Lucy] Janssen; Wilmer Bomberger, Lincoln; Peter Bomberger, Columbus; Mrs. Ray [Nellie] Trayer, Oconto; Andrew Bomberger; Mrs. Walter [Della] Luckens, Lincoln; and four sisters, Mrs. James [Rhoda] Rowe, Cook; Mrs. George [Phoebe] Rowe, Burr; Mrs. Dolly Percival, Hooper, Colo.; Mrs. Adah Carpenter, Douglas; also two brothers, Charles Bomberger of near Broken Bow; Frank Bomberger of Tecumseh. There are also thirty-two grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren; besides many other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Saturday [May 24, 1941] afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Cook Methodist church. Rev. R.D. Winker will be the minister in charge, and Masonic services will also be held. Interment will be in the Tecumseh cemetery.

Friends offer their deepest sympathy to the sorrowing ones.
