Jacob Koenig was born of French/German Parents near Otway, Ohio. In 1900 he and his wife Margaret moved to a farm near Page, ND, where they farmed until 1903. From there they moved to North Kidder County. They built a sod house to live in, and built a straw barn later. The family lived in the sod house for around five years enduring many hardships such as: crop failures, long hard winters, prairie fires... which came across the hills known as "Wagon Wheel Hill".
Jacob spent most of his life farming and living off the land where they first built the sod house, until his death in 1935 at the age of 68 years, after a lingering illness.
Margaret spent most of her last years with their daughter Elizabeth and her family, until she passed away at the age of 78, also after a long illness. (taken from a bio written by Elizabeth)
