May 21, 1908 - Carroll Sentinel - After an illness of a week, Mathew, the little son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Timmermans of Carroll Tp., died at 5:30 o'clock Monday morning of meningites, complicated by gastric disturbances that resulted in spasms. He was 11 years, 8 months and 16 days old. The best medical skill and tenderest care by the loving parents, was unable to save that precious boy.

While nature is clad in the joyous colors of spring, and all that lives rejoices in this home, deepest sorrow has entered and the silent tears are falling. Human life has few joys and many sorrows. Our path is strewn with thorns and the wounds of our heart bleed until its beating is forever stilled. It is hard to discern now the divine wisdom in taking away those we love so dearly. As time rolls on and the eternal balm has lessened the pain of these early wounds, we may learn that "He doeth all things well" that our beloved child was forever removed from earth's sorrows, pains, temptations, and misery as an act of His favor and love. We cannot see it now, we feel an insupressible longing that will not be stilled, but peace and solace are bestowed by the same hand that chastened our life with grief. Beyond this life there is another where, we may firmly believe, a little child shall lead us to mansions on high.

The funeral was conducted from SS. Peter and Paul's church in this city at 9 o'clock yesterday forenoon.
