WILLIAM J. PETRY

HIGHLY RESPECTED DIETERICH CITIZEN SUCCUMBS TO DEATH
at Home in Dieterich, Thursday Evening July 28. Funeral Held, on Sunday Afternoon.

William J. Petry, highly respected citizen of this community, aged 66 years passed away at Home here Thursday evening, July 28, after a lingering illness of long duration. For more than eight months he had been confined to his bed, during which time he suffered intense pain which he bore with patience, thinking not of himself but of the wife and others who faithfully ministered to him during his long period of illness.

Mr. Petry with his family had resided in Dieterich about forty years. He was interested in the business life of the village, having conducted a general store and a variety store for many years. After disposing of that business he operated a dairy and an insurance agency, both of which he continued until his health compelled him to retire.

Mr. Petry was an enthusiastic and helpful participant in all activities which pointed to the betterment of the community. He was a lifelong and devoted member of the Church and was a leader in the activities of the local Parish. He was a member of the Dieterich Commercial Club, a member of the board of school trustees for Township 7 Range 7, and a member of the Modern Woodman lodge, Effingham Camp, for which organization he was local representative since the disbandment of the Dieterich Camp. He was also a faithful member of the Holy Name Society of the Immaculate Conception Church 1 at Dieterich.

Mr. Petry was a firm believer in education and was among the most enthusiastic proponents of a four year community high school at Dieterich.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday at the Immaculate Conception with burial in the Parish Cemetery. Rev Fr. P. R. Macauley conducted the services which were attended by a great number of relatives and friends from this and other communities.

The pall-bearers were: L N. Hutmacher. V. P. Dusey, Edward Lustig, Edgar Meyer, Louis Kahtz and D. W. Ordner. The flower bearers were Rita Marie Stockman, Genevieve Stockman, Betty Ann Stockman, Rosemary Feldhake, Patty Feldhake, Stella Dasenbrock, Madonna Lustig, Phyllis Meyer, Bernice Brummer, Mrs Eleanor Brummer, Dorothy Culp, Malinda Hutmacher, Patty Olendorf Marie Steppe, Anna Marie Lustig and Mrs V. P. Dusey.

Petry, Mrs Edna (Bender) Burns, Miss Elizabeth Blumerich, Mrs Eva Stark and daughter Betty, Mr. and Mrs John Greenwood and children Janice and John, Mr. and Mrs Edgar Meyer and daughters, Joan and Jean, Mr. and Mrs V.
