Anna Gertrude Hutmacher was born 31 May 1851 Tripsrath-Geilenkirchen, Germany, and died January 12, 1924 in the home of her youngest daughter, Katheryn Mary Petry Overbeck at Dieterich, Bishop, Effingham, Illinois, USA Anna lived her last years in the home of Katheryn M.P. Overbeck, and was buried in the Catholic Cemetery, Dieterich, Illinois . As a young girl, Anna left her parents' home and found employment in a hotel at DuQuoin, DuQuoin, Illinois, where she met her future husband. Anna married William Petry of DuQuoin, DuQuoin, Perry County, Illinois, on 23 May 1871.

On May 23, 1871 Peter William Petry, son of Wilhelm Petry and Catherine Rehl, married Anna Gertrude Hutmacher, daughter of Joseph Hutmacher and Anna Maria Huber.

DEATH OF GRANDMA PETRY

Mrs Petry, an aged and highly respected citizen of Dieterich, was summoned by death Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs Frank Overbeck, after an illness of several months duration. The funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St Mary Church of that place with Rev Fr. Oscar Wernet officiating. Interment was made in the parish Cemetery.

Mrs Petry was a kind, lovable and Christian woman always trying to please others. She was highly respected by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn two sons, Wm. J. of Dieterich and Nick of Chicago; four daughters, Mrs Wm. Petry and Mrs Henry Meyer of near Wheeler, Mrs B. F. Deters and Mrs Frank Overbeck of Dieterich, also a brother, Nick Hutmacher of Dieterich, besides a number of grand-children and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs Allie Dasenbrock and Mr. and Mrs Louis Kahtz of this place attended the funeral.

A GOOD WOMAN GONE TO HER REWARD

Anna G. Petry, After a Long, Busy and Useful Life,
Died As She Had Lived - Honored, Trusted and Loved

An humble, modest, quiet mother and grandmother willingly consigned her soul into the loving hands of her Father the Creator, and gladly laid herself down after years of labor and toil to enter the scene of action she had so long been laboring for, after a season of intense suffering from asthma. This was Mrs Anna G Petry who passed away at 6 o'clock, Saturday evening, January 12, 1924.

Her earthly pilgrimage came to an end at the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs Frank B Overbeck, at the age of 72 years, 7 months and 12 days. For the past several years she has made her home with this daughter, where she was well taken care of and tenderly nursed. During the past summer and fall, she spent much time visiting her children, having returned home a few days before her death from a few weeks visit with her daughter, Mrs B F Deters.

Grandma Petry was of a quiet, unassuming, pleasing disposition, always preferring to make those around her happy, not taking her own pleasure or comforts into consideration. Her only desire and intent was to serve others, assisting to relive their sorrows and to add to their comforts and joys.

Anna G Hutmacher, was born in Germany, May 31, 1851, and came to America with her parents, who located at Teutopolis, Teutopolis, Effingham, Illinois, USA When but a girl, she left the parental home and found employment in a hotel in DuQuoin, DuQuoin, this state. It was while employed here that she met William Petry, and on May 23, 1871, they were married. After living a few years at DuQuoin, DuQuoin, she, with her husband and family, moved to Wheeler, Jasper County, where for 22 years they conducted a hotel. In the year 1906 Mr. and Mrs Petry came to Dieterich and purchased the hotel building located south of the Illinois Central depot where they continued catering to the travelling public until Mr. Petry's death, which occurred July 26, 1913. At this time the hotel Business was taken charge of by her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs F B Overbeck, who have conducted it since in the name of the Hotel Overbeck. but Grandma Petry still loved to Care and serve the wayfarer, which she did with pleasure until a few months ago. The happy married life of Mr. and Mrs Petry was blessed with three sons and four daughters --William J, Josephine, Elizabeth, Frank J. who died May 9, 1909, Mary, Nicholas H. and Katherine.

She leaves mourning her departure two sons, William J., Peter, Dieterich, Nicholas H. Petry, Chicago, Mrs Henry ( Josephine) Meyer, and Mrs William (Elizabeth) Lustig, both of Grove Township; Mrs Ben F (Mary) Deters and Mrs Frank 'Katherine' Overbeck of Dieterich; one brother, Nicholas Hutmacher, of Dieterich; twenty grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and a large circle of sorrowing friends.

Funeral services were held Monday morning, January 1, at 9:30 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Dieterich. Rev Fr O J Wernet officiating. The remains were then tenderly laid to rest by the side of her husband and son in the parish Cemetery.

Pall bearers - Joseph Frena, Julis Baumgartner, Art Baumgartner and Julis Gross of Chicago, Charles N. Steppe and Arthur Hutmacher of Dieterich.
