William was born March 7, 1921 in Bayard to George and Marie Katherine (Uhrich) Groskopf. He attended Cedar Valley grade school and graduated from Gering High School in 1939. Served his country in the United States Army Air Force from 1942 until 1945. William and Kathryn (Henkel) Groskopf were united in marriage March 7, 1948 in Gering. He spent his life farming and feeding cattle in the Cedar Canyon area, living in the same house for 83 years. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. William was a member of Emmanuel Congregational Church where he attended church regularly and knew Jesus as his Saviour. He also served as chairman of the board and Deacon. He was very active in the community serving on boards such as Extension Board, School Board and 24 years on the Gering-Ft. Laramie Irrigation District. He was a long time member of the VFW, and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn of Gering; sons William Max (Diane) Groskopf of Littleton, Colo. and Richard John (Cindy) Groskopf of Gering. He is also survived by his grandchildren Suzanne (Erik) Williamson; Christopher Groskopf; Leann (Mike) Chalupa; Jim Groskopf; Julie (Bryan) Hazzard and Jordan Groskopf. Great-grandchildren Rory and Josh Hazzard and Kaitlyn Williamson.
His parents, four brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
