GRANDPA KROEGER

Joseph Kroeger, passed away suddenly Sunday afternoon around four o'clock, November 2, 1930 while returning home from St Francis Church, Teutopolis.

Mr and Mrs Kroeger were in an automobile with their son Joseph and his wife. Mr Kroeger seemed to be in good health. The two men were in the front seat and the women the rear.

Mr. Kroeger had lighted his pipe and was smoking when his son noticed that his pipe had fallen from his mouth and on examination found that life seemingly had flown. Father Ephrem was hurriedly called and gave him conditionally the last rites of the Church. Dr. E. A. Weisenborn was also called but when he arrived, Mr. Kroeger was dead.

This happened on the gravel road from Teutopolis where it connects with Route 33 between Jos. Kramer's and Leo Wernsing's farm.

Then the body was taken to his near home southwest of Teutopolis. Coroner Dr. Doty was called and held an inquest and found that death was caused by heart failure.
